What Marker stores
Everything Marker needs to keep score is saved by the app on your own devices. You decide what goes in: player names can be real names, nicknames or initials.
-
Match details
Names you enter (up to 14 characters each), sport, singles or doubles, rules, toss result and choices, first server, starting ends, scoring device, start and update times.
- Why
- To run and show the match.
- How long
- Until you start another match. Each match is also filed in your history from its first point.
-
Undo history
Earlier states of the current match, including which end each team was at.
- Why
- Undo and corrections, even after match point.
- How long
- The latest 120 states. Older ones are removed automatically.
-
Match history
Names, sport, scores, dates, and whether each match was completed, ended early or abandoned.
- Why
- History, resuming a match ended early, and counting your five free matches.
- How long
- Up to 200 matches, oldest removed first. Without membership the app shows your five most recent; the rest stay saved on the device.
-
Recovery copies
The previous valid save, a score waiting for you to choose between devices, up to four versions you did not choose, and any save the app could not read.
- Why
- So a mistake, a disagreement between devices or a damaged save never silently loses a match.
- How long
- Replaced by newer copies over time. At most four rejected versions at once.
-
Preferences
Whether you finished the welcome screens, and your sudden-death setting.
- Why
- To remember your settings.
- How long
- Until you change them.
Where it is stored
On iPhone, the app and its widgets share one storage area on that iPhone (an App Group). On Apple Watch, Marker keeps its own copy on the Watch. This is standard app storage on the device. Marker adds no encryption of its own, and Velvet Motion runs no server or cloud backup for your matches.
Practice points on the welcome screen are never saved.
iPhone and Apple Watch sync
If you use Marker on an iPhone and a paired Apple Watch, the two apps exchange the current match, its undo history and your match history through Apple’s Watch Connectivity framework, so either device can show the score. One device scores at a time and the other mirrors it.
Apple’s system software handles this exchange between your paired devices. It is not sent to Velvet Motion. Apple’s terms and privacy policy cover how your devices and Apple’s services operate.
Apple Watch match sessions and Health
On Apple Watch, Marker can run a match session so the score is still there when you lower and raise your wrist. It uses a workout session from Apple’s HealthKit framework to do this.
- The first time a match starts on your Watch, Marker asks permission to share Workouts with Health. It asks to read nothing.
- HealthKit has no padel activity, so padel and tennis matches both use Apple’s tennis activity type.
- Marker does not record workout data. When the session ends, Marker discards it and saves no workout, heart rate, calories, distance or route to Health.
- Marker reads no Health data, so it has none to use for advertising or to share.
- Your Apple Watch may still measure and record health information under its own settings, independently of Marker.
You can decline and still keep score. Without a match session, watchOS may return to the watch face when you lower your wrist. You can change the permission later in the Health app on your iPhone; Apple explains how in Share your data in Health.
Widgets, Live Activities and the Lock Screen
While a match is in progress, Marker can show the score, and in some views player names, in widgets, in a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and on Apple Watch. Anyone who can see your screen can see them.
Marker marks player names on these surfaces as sensitive, so the system can hide them when it redacts sensitive content, for example on a locked device, depending on your settings. That does not hide them in every situation. You can remove Marker’s widgets at any time and turn off Live Activities for Marker in the Settings app.
Membership and purchases
Marker includes five free matches. Membership is a one-time lifetime pass or a monthly subscription that renews until you cancel, sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase. Apple shows prices in your local currency.
- Apple processes the payment and handles billing, cancellations and refunds. Velvet Motion never receives your card or Apple Account details.
- On your device, Marker asks Apple which Marker purchases are active, including refunds, revocations and expired subscriptions, to unlock membership.
- Apple’s standard sales reports give us information such as which product was sold, its price, and the App Store country or region. They do not include buyers’ names, email addresses or card details. Subscription reports can also include a randomly generated subscriber identifier and that subscription’s purchase activity.
Apple’s terms and privacy policy apply to your purchase.
Information Apple may share with us
If you turned on Share With App Developers in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics for Marker with us. Apple describes this information as aggregated or not personally identifying. You can turn it off at any time. Apple explains more in App Analytics & Privacy.
When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your address and whatever you include, such as device details, screenshots or an export file. We use it only to answer you and fix problems in Marker, because you asked us to help (our legitimate interest in answering your request). Please remove or replace player names before you send screenshots or exports.
Our mailbox is provided by Google (Gmail), so Google’s privacy policy also applies to emails you send us. We keep support emails for up to 12 months after the conversation ends, then delete them.
Transfers outside the EU
Google, which provides our mailbox, and Netlify, which hosts this website, are based in the United States, so information they handle may be processed outside the European Union. They rely on safeguards recognised under EU law, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
This website
These pages set no cookies, use no analytics or advertising, and load no fonts or scripts from other companies. The typeface is served from this site.
The site is hosted by Netlify. Like most hosts, Netlify may process technical information such as your IP address in server logs to deliver and protect the site, under its own privacy policy.
How long data is kept, and your choices
- Match data stays on your devices until Marker replaces it: undo history beyond 120 steps and history beyond 200 matches are removed oldest first, and recovery copies are replaced over time.
- There is no Marker account, so there is nothing to sign out of or close.
- Marker does not yet let you delete individual matches from history.
- You can change Marker’s Health permission, turn off Live Activities, remove widgets and stop sharing analytics with developers at any time in your device settings.
Deleting Marker
Deleting Marker removes its locally stored match data from the device you delete it from, including saved scores, player names, match history and recovery copies. iPhone and Apple Watch can each hold a copy, so remove Marker from both if you want both copies gone, and check that the Watch app is really removed. If you reinstall on one device, it may receive your saved data again from the other through syncing.
Deleting the app does not delete exports or result cards you saved outside Marker, copies you shared with others, or existing backups of your device, and it does not cancel an Apple subscription. Offloading the app, or removing its icon from the Home Screen, is not the same as deleting it.
Device backups
Marker has no iCloud sync or backup of its own. Depending on your backup settings, Marker’s data may be included in your iPhone’s iCloud or computer backups, and Apple Watch backups are stored with the paired iPhone. You manage these backups in Apple’s settings; deleting Marker does not erase backups that already exist. We cannot promise that every match made only on Apple Watch will be restored from a backup.
If Marker says a saved match could not be read, please do not delete the app. The unreadable copy is kept for recovery. What to do instead.
Your rights
Because your matches are stored on your devices, most of what Marker handles is already in your control. You can ask what personal information we hold about you, which in practice means emails you have sent us, and ask us to correct or delete it.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to receive a copy of your information, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to complain to a data protection authority. In the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. We use support emails only to answer your request. To use any of these rights, contact us through Marker support. We reply within one month.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date. If a future version of Marker changes how your information is handled, for example by sending data off your device, we will update this policy before that version is released.
